“Hyperbolic Cellulose” displayed in Nuit Blanche Winnipeg 2024, explores the large-scale applications of locally grown bacterial cellulose membranes. The installation features a hyperbolic paraboloid wood structure that supports over 300 square feet of this innovative biobased material. Participants were invited to experience the vibrant colours, unique textures, flexibility, and translucent qualities of the installation and to consider the potential of integrating bacterial cellulose and other biobased materials into everyday life. Following its display at the Nuit Blanche event, the structure will be relocated to a new site to study its weathering and decay under Canadian outdoor conditions.
