Bacterial cellulose is known for its remarkable tensile strength, attributed to the microscopic alignment of its fibers. Informal testing at the BIOM_Lab has explored braiding and weaving techniques to further enhance this strength. In the woven samples, strips of cellulose are attached and distributed to increase the contact area, thereby boosting frictional force and resistance to slippage. Similarly, braiding bacterial cellulose helps maintain structural integrity and enables the braid to distribute the load more evenly. Compared to a linear cellulose strip, a braided structure offers higher elasticity and abrasion resistance, enhancing its overall performance.
